Forschungsgebiet

  • Mathematics - subject: Mathematical Modelling for optimising the health system using the One Health approach. In epidemiology ecotoxicology and radiation one has to deal with invisible risks. A person who is located in a hazardous area requires support in order to be able to move as unscathed as possible in a hazardous area or to find a way out of the hazardous area. The following research questions are pursued: How can invisible risk be visualised in order to create risk awareness that leads to risk minimisation? How can one provide help to a person who is located in a hazardous area through early warning and spatial decision support? To be able to deal with such questions several disciplines have to be combined interdisciplinary among others: logistics for optimising the distribution of resources. mathematics for the mathematical modelling of distribution problems and for processing fuzzy data medicine for the analysis of medical processes and their mathematical modelling computer science for modelling the decision support for the distribution of resources information and communication technology for the identification and development of communication channels and adaptive graphical user interface design for the tailored delivery of information. In this context the analysis of learning and educational processes contributes to capacity building of information- and communication technology in the field of risk literacy and thus contributes to overcome obstacles in transferring information in hazardous situations and to the increase of risk awareness. -- Mathematics - didactics: Problem-oriented mathematics teaching by being embedded in concrete applications. Area: mathematical modelling. By addressing project-oriented questions from the environmental sciences that require mathematical modelling for the solution different learning groups (e.g. students early students teacher trainees students of an environmental and natural Sciences degree course) can be brought together and mutually benefit and learn from each other. On the one hand the own problem-oriented approach to mathematics encourages the ability to work on projects in a team and on the other hand didactic aspects of project-oriented mathematics teaching can be taken up and deepened in teaching courses at the university. These skills are necessary to tackle projects in schools in which mathematics is used for cross-curricular problem solving. In order to enable an optimal exchange of information between the research-based learning groups the utilisation of open source software and open content is useful.
