Kurzfassung
The scientific revolution of the 17th century redefined the notion of scientificity. At the same time, astrology came under fierce criticism, and historiography (Tester 1987, Drévillon 1996) saw it as a marginal discipline, both intellectually and socially. As a result, contemporaries would abruptly cease to regard the predictions produced by this discipline as credible. The aim of my project is to question this perspective, by examining the place occupied by astrology between the last quarter of the 17th century and 1820, shortly after the end of the Napoleonic Empire, and by including it in the debates surrounding knowledge evolving on the bangs of official science. This project builds on the findings of my dissertation and broadens the questions surrounding the importance of astrology in almanacs between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, by examining the place of astrology in Ancien Régime societies and linking it to social, cultural and political factors. My field of investigation comprises France, the German-speaking world and the Italian peninsula. In addition to examining the specific dynamics of each of these territories, I will also look at the transfers and exchanges between these cultural spaces.» weiterlesen» einklappen
