Monika Aichele is an illustrator, designer and educator based in Munich and Mainz. She has lived and worked in New York, Barcelona, and Berlin. Aichele works in a variety of media, including ink, acrylic and collage and she specializes in silk screen printing. She illustrates for publications in Europe and the United States. In 2017 she worked for the Büchergilde Gutenberg on an illustrated book, Paradise of False Birds by Wolfgang Hildesheimer. Another outstanding project was designing a series of giant inflatable monkeys, created for Stefan Sagmeister. She has been a regular contributor to the New York Times since 1998 and her pivotal series on resilience started in 2020.
Monika teaches drawing and Illustration in Mainz at the University of Applied Sciences.
