The medical illness model has driven psychotherapy research and practice into a dead end. POINT (process-oriented individualized network-based therapy) integrates complex network theory and the assumptions of process-based therapy into a new framework for mental disorders that facilitates individualized assessment and personalized psychotherapy.

The first part of the project comprises POINT-Assessment collecting real-time data for an individual dynamic and functional network analysis with mobile devices. It aims to test whether interactive assessment is feasible as diagnostic tool for a functional analysis of behavior and to detect dysfunctional patterns. The second part of the project is POINT-Applied, an exploratory psychotherapy study. Treatment modules are selected and implemented individually based on the results of the interactive assessment. The major goals are testing feasibility and effectiveness of individualized therapy.

POINT-Pain applies the outlined project to patients with chronic pain.
