The EHPBA was founded in 1999 as the European Regional Association of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (www.ihpba.org). The Association then expanded to countries of the Middle East and Africa, thus forming the European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (E-AHPBA) in 2011. Currently, the Association counts for more than 500 active members from Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Congresses of the E-AHPBA in Germany only took place in Hamburg in 1997 and in Heidelberg in 2005. More than 1000 participiants from all over the world came to this congress in Mainz.
HPB surgery has dramatically changed over the past decades. Minimally invasive and robotassisted technologies gain increasing importance and may become the standard in the future. Different technologies for tumour ablation are more and more utilised by HPB surgeons. Parallel to the latter, interdisciplinary management of HPB diseases becomes increasingly significant. The programme of this conference accounted for these shifts in indications, technologies and treatment protocols in more than 30 symposia and special lectures. Furthermore a particular emphasis was put on promoting young surgeons in symposia by focusing on surgical training as well as giving them a platform to present the results of their surgical research.
The congress offered the possibility to network with colleagues from abroad. Plenty of opportunities during and after the formal sessions were included which enabled participants to make new contacts.» weiterlesen» einklappen
