This study investigates the differences between German citizens of Turkish and non-Turkish origin with regard to their legal possibilities of obtaining dual citizenship or dual/multiple membership status in Turkey. With regard to current German and Turkish law and legal practice we can distinguish three main legal statuses among German citizens in Turkey : (1) Blue Card (Mavi Kart) , (2) exceptional dual citizenship and (3) foreigner status. However, due to the interplay of Turkish and German law and legal practice these statuses are related to the origin of their holders. While the Blue Card status is limited to former Turkish citizens and their descendants, dual citizenship is only granted in exceptional cases to “autochthonous” Germans . The third possibility is ‘foreigner status’, which is attributed to foreign nationals who have never held Turkish citizenship and are not directly descended from someone who once held Turkish citizenship. The project is conceptualized as a comparative study of these forms of multiple legal memberships within the wider context of German-Turkish relations, transnationalization, (dual) citizenship and multiple memberships. » weiterlesen» einklappen
