The main focus of this group was to study new materials and techniques in nonsurgical and regenerative periodontal therapy. In controlled clinical studies we evaluated the efficacy of antimicrobial therapy as an adjunct to nonsurgical periodontal treatment. Moreover, the effectiveness of different bone replacement grafts in regenerative periodontal therapy was evaluated in different randomized, controlled clinical trials. In vitro studies evaluated the influence of regenerative materials on cells of the periodontium. Moreover, we established different cell culture models to study the response of human gingival fibroblasts (proliferation, adhesion, migration) stimulated by different bone replacement grafts.
