The research group focuses on the immunopathogenesis of acute and chronic liver diseases. This includes the characterization of immune responses associated with chronic hepatitis B and C as well as the analyses of the immune-milieu in solid malignancies. Among our projects the characterization of myeloid-derived immunecells in hepatocellular carcinoma is part of the CRC 1272 initiative funded by the DFG. Further research covers the general role of inflammation in liver disease and concentrates on the underlying inflammatory pathomechanisms during end-stage liver disease. The reseach group is tightly linked with the Clinical Registry Unit (CRU) of the I. Medical Department, which allows the combination of experimental approaches and clinical data to pursue translational research goals.
