Knowledge of the circulating variants of SARS-CoV-2 is crucial for a sensibly adapted response to the ongoing infection processes. We regularly sequence virus samples from hospital patients and determine the variants they contain. This allows us to track variant distributions and uncover transmission chains in the clinic. More recently, wastewater monitoring programs have made promises regarding the early detection of newly introduced variants.
