SARS-CoV-2 monitoring in the clinic and from wastewater samples (Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Gesundheit RLP)
Laufzeit: 01.01.2022 - 31.12.2024
Kurzfassung
Knowledge of the circulating variants of SARS-CoV-2 is crucial for a sensibly adapted response to the ongoing infection processes. We regularly sequence virus samples from hospital patients and determine the variants they contain. This allows us to track variant distributions and uncover transmission chains in the clinic. We regularly sequence virus samples from hospital patients and determine the variants they contain. This allows us to track variant distributions and uncover transmission chains in the clinic. More recently, wastewater monitoring programs have made promises regarding the early detection of newly introduced variants. Twice a week, we analyze water samples from the central wastewater treatment plant in Mainz using genome sequencing and compare the variants found with the results from the clinic. Assessing the strengths of different monitoring approaches objectively and for local conditions is essential for public health management planning.» weiterlesen» einklappen
