Kurzfassung

Polio is a viral disease with a high proportion of asymptomatic cases. If the first cases are found clinically, it can be assumed that the pathogen is already circulating relatively widely in the population. In this project, the viruses excreted by asymptomatic carriers of the disease are to be detected in wastewater samples in order to evaluate the suitability of the approach as an early warning system. In addition to cell culture assays, the focus here is on molecular genetic methods,...Polio is a viral disease with a high proportion of asymptomatic cases. If the first cases are found clinically, it can be assumed that the pathogen is already circulating relatively widely in the population. In this project, the viruses excreted by asymptomatic carriers of the disease are to be detected in wastewater samples in order to evaluate the suitability of the approach as an early warning system. In addition to cell culture assays, the focus here is on molecular genetic methods, i.e. high-throughput sequencing of the second and third generation. The project is coordinated by the National Reference Center for Poliomyelitis and Enteroviruses of the RKI and carried out in cooperation with the central wastewater treatment plant in Mainz.» weiterlesen» einklappen
