Composites, compomers, and glass ionomer cements are widely used in the restorative therapy of the primary dentition. Bulk-flow materials are also used in the primary dentition; they can be applied as a 4 mm layer and show lower shrinkage stress. According to the manufacturers’ instructions these materials are intended for the entire class-II-cavity of primary molars without cover layer. In a clinical study using a split-mouth design, class-II-cavities of primary teeth were filled with the bulk-flow material Venus Bulk Fill or with the compomer Dyract as control. Both materials were first evaluated after an observation period of one year. There was no statistically significant difference between both filling materials for primary molars.
