Despite achieving good effects on psychological health, the studies are reported to have limitations and the necessity of using rigorous scientific method is called for. Furthermore, to our knowledge, no study of prevention program in German medical schools has yet been published.
In order to address the psychological health of medical students in Germany our institution has developed, in cooperation with the Department of Research and Teaching of the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, a mindfulness-based stress prevention training (MediMind) tailored to the needs of students in medical education. Taking into account the limitations of previous study designs, we present a prospective randomized controlled trial that explores three conditions (experimental treatment, standard treatment and control without treatment) using several assessment time points. The primary aim of this research is to examine the effectiveness of a mindfulness-based stress prevention training for medical students (MediMind) and to prove if it has a beneficial effect on the experience of stress and coping strategies.
