The focus is on examining how solidarity is forged within such a platform by analyzing the positioning taken up by the platform and its members. Working within a transnational feminist perspective, the study concentrates on foregrounding the links and relationships articulated in this platform, whether it be conceptual, material, temporal and contextual so as to illustrate the different ways in which relationships are established within this platform. Data for this study was collected both online and offline in the form of a website page, forum discussion and semi-structured interviews as a way to gain a more holistic view of their positioning. Findings from this study initially suggest the importance of categories in relation to solidarity, however, a more in depth analysis reveals that the members use the categories in interconnected ways which in turn highlights the liminal positions taken up in the platform. The emergence of liminality shifts the discussion of solidarity from members relying on categories to forge relationships with each other to that of members acknowledging the differences that exist within these categories and thereby having to go beyond these differences as they seek moments of commonalities from their liminal positions to forge solidarity. As such a complex picture of solidarity emerges proposing the notion that solidarity in this platform can only be envisioned primarily because it is both imagined and negotiated. It is imagined because it relies on the acknowledgement of differences in order to arrive at their liminality as their common ground where relationships can be potentially forged. At the same time, it is negotiated because the liminal positions taken up are filled with moments of potential and opportunities as well as contradictions and ambiguities.» weiterlesen» einklappen
