Iron shows fast heat development under microwave (MW) irradiation. This property was used to start polymerization reactions on the surface of iron fibres. This property was used to start polymerization reactions on the surface of iron fibres. MW irradiation of metal fibres, which are located in a monomer solution consisting of methyl methacrylate, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, N,N'-azoisobutyronitrile and toluene led to the formation of polymer on the metal fibre surface. After dissolving the covered iron component in hydrochloric acid, a channel-containing polymeric material was obtained. Scanning electron microscopy showed a smooth material with rough inner channels. These internal surface structures were caused by the rough surface of the metal fibres. » weiterlesen» einklappen
