This article deals with perspectival construal patterns in English. Specifically, it looks at the structure and acquisition of construal operations as well as their cognitive and interactional foundations. In Cognitive Linguistics, construal operations express a certain perspective on an event or state of affairs. In Cognitive Linguistics, construal operations express a certain perspective on an event or state of affairs. One of the key questions from an acquisitional point of view is how children acquire the perspectival potential inherent in language. This article first gives an overview of the major construal operations discussed in Cognitive Linguistics before looking at the acquisition of construal operations in English. It does so by using examples from studies on word learning and perspectivation on the one hand and corpus-linguistic approaches to the acquisition of construal operations on the other. Finally, this paper will describe some of the most important general cognitive capacities as well as sociocognitive capacities that children build on when learning to use linguistic constructions as prompts for the dynamic construction of meaning from a certain perspective.» weiterlesen» einklappen
