In the well-known story of the Good Shepherd, Jesus identifies as the shepherd who leads his sheep to the pasture of life: ‘I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly’ (Jn 10:10). While the mission of the ‘Son of Man’ has, without doubt, an eschatological dimension, it is also one of service and solidarity with the needy and the suffering.
