Victorina González-Díaz’ corpus-based research monograph investigates the diachronic development of three strategies used in English comparative formation: the synthetic form (happier), its analytic variant (more happy) and the double comparative (more happier). The book fills a gap in the prospering discussion of comparative alternation by focussing on the underexplored diachronic dimension and by being the most comprehensive study of double comparatives to date.
