Frank Geldard and Carl Sherrick first described the Cutaneous Rabbit Effect (CRE) in 1972 (Geldard and Sherrick, 1972). This version of the illusion entailed five quick taps at the wrist, then at the middle of the forearm, and then at the elbow (see figure).
