The title compound, [Fe(C5H5)(C8H7O)], is produced by the reaction of ferrocene with 1,1,3,3-tetramethoxypropane. It crystallizes in the noncentrosymmetric space group P2(1)2(1)2(1). The alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehyde moiety adopts an s-trans configuration. The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular C-H...O interactions.
