Rana levantina sp. n. - the Levantine frog - is a new anuran species. The mating call of this new species differs significantly from that of R. ridibunda Pallas, 1771 in the terra typica restricta. Discriminant functions distinguish individual call series with a probability of 96%. The mating calls of R. levantina sp. n. are composed of an average of 10.08 pulses/pulse group and 10.46 pulse groups/call. The mating calls of R. levantina sp. n. are composed of an average of 10.08 pulses/pulse group and 10.46 pulse groups/call. The species is further characterized by ten standardized morphological indices which permit a discrimination with a probability of 93% from R. ridibunda. R. levantina sp. n. is found in Israel as well as in the Nile delta and in western Turkey. » weiterlesen» einklappen
