Preparation of thin films of the Chevrel-phase compound BaMo6S8 and the effects of irradiation with 20-MeV sulfur ions on the electrical resistivity ?(T) and lattice transformation are reported. Although the anomaly in ?(T) rapidly decreases with fluence and appears to be removed after 4 × 1013 cm-2, no super-conductivity above 1.25 K could be detected. Unexpectedly, irradiation at room temperature causes a significantly larger increase of ?(5 K) than low-temperature irradiation.
