A revised version has been translated into English in order to reach a wider range of readers. It represents a more Euro-pean and German view of the problems of managing foreign exchange rate risks. Neverthe-less, it can easily be transferred to the perspective of other regions or countries. The first chapter covers and emphasizes the relevance of managing foreign exchange rate risk. This is followed by the aspects of liquidity, which have become increasingly important with the crisis. Later on some significant figures are shown regarding transactions on the financial market, especially for the trade of foreign currencies. From this point on it is easy to derive the restrictions in forecasting the development of exchange rates. Another aspect that is covered in the course of this paper, is the development of globalization such as the shift from indus-trialized to emerging countries. This provides the opportunity and necessity to have a closer look at other currencies, which may not have played such an important role in the economy before. The process of globalization includes an increasing amount of foreign direct invest-ments (FDI) and in this respect a sound knowledge of how to manage the respective forex risks is crucial. The last aspect is the political influence. Politicians aim to regulate financial markets e.g. with a central clearing party for transactions with financial instruments (spot market and deriva-tives). This influences management as well as the transaction tax discussed (also called Tobin Tax). Unfortunately, in a short paper not all aspects can be discussed in depth. The aim is to show the different factors which contributed to the economic development of the last years. A more detailed analysis is necessary for a company’s individual management. » weiterlesen» einklappen
