These events are the result of significant collaboration between the Motyf founders – Professor Anja Stöffler, Mainz University of Applied Sciences, Professor Ralf Dringenberg, School of Design Schwäbisch Gmünd and Professor Ewa Satalecka, Polish Japanese Academy of Information Technology, Warsaw – and Dr Hilary Kenna, Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Dún Laoghaire (IADT), Ireland. This significant volume presents just a sample from the range of academic research, teaching pedagogies, student projects and professional works by designers leading the emerging field of screen typography. The book is divided into three parts that represent and examine the key theme of each of the three conferences mentioned above: Moving Types (2016), Virtual Types (2018) and Future Text. A range of critical themes, emergent design practices, new teaching methods, and experimental works are discussed and illustrated between these pages. They show a picture of what, how and why typography on the screen is being created, represented and consumed. In interactive experiences that involve a blend of digital technology with traditional media, you will see examples of Augmented Reality printed works, Virutal Reality text experiences, as well as physcial installations. You can watch and read typographic films, to marvel at the fluid motion, animation and sound snychronisation of words as they transition through space and time. You can learn about new forms of generative typography, responsive to gesture, voice and touch, that create random and different designs with each audience interaction. New forms of digital typefaces that encompass variability through coding or additional properties such as motion are also showcased. There are many works to examine and ponder in this book which point a way forward to the future possibilities for typography on the screen. The critical and cultural significance of the body of work emerging from this book is still evolving. It is not resovled. It poses more questions than presents answers. Digital technology and connectivity empower us to access different cultures, to work together, and to collaborate in unprecedented ways. But how will this affect the diversity of language, writing, scripts and typography? As creators and consumers of text, our reading and writing behaviours and experiences are changing through the medium of the screen. The essays and examples pubished here explore these very issues. Typography continues to transform through the medium of the screen and this book documents the start of this journey. It is the hope of the editiors, authors and collaborators represented here, that you will find valuable learning, and be inspired to continue, or to begin, your own exploration into the fascinating world of text and typography as it develops and progresses into the future. » weiterlesen» einklappen
