EU – EUROSTARS (E! 4289 - SILIBACTS) Encapsulation of bacteria with biosilica for fabrication of bacterial bioreactors and biosensors (Coordinator: W.E.G. Müller)
Laufzeit: 01.01.2009 - 31.12.2011
Kurzfassung
The aim of this project is the introduction of the technique of enzyme (silicatein)-catalyzed biosilica synthesis for the production of silica-encapsulated bacterial bioreactors/sensors (bacteria in a silica glass cage) for biotechnological applications. The tasks of the partner at the Johannes Gutenberg University are: (1) Isolation of the cDNAs coding for silicatein-α and -ß from a cDNA library from the sponge Suberites domuncula. (2) Analysis of the expressed proteins. (3)...The aim of this project is the introduction of the technique of enzyme (silicatein)-catalyzed biosilica synthesis for the production of silica-encapsulated bacterial bioreactors/sensors (bacteria in a silica glass cage) for biotechnological applications. The tasks of the partner at the Johannes Gutenberg University are: (1) Isolation of the cDNAs coding for silicatein-α and -ß from a cDNA library from the sponge Suberites domuncula. (2) Analysis of the expressed proteins. (3) Immunofluorescence microscopical investigation of the transformed bacterial cells. (4) Physical-chemical characterization of the biosilica shells synthesized by silicatein. (5) Investigation of the effect of the silica shell on the mechanical and chemical stability of the cells. Novel bioreactors and biosensors will be developed together with the two SME partners.» weiterlesen» einklappen
