ARTWET focuses on the broad establishment of low cost vegetated treatment systems (biologic systems) to mitigate the risk of agricultural nonpoint-source (NPS) pesticide pollution in surface waters in order to prepare the water framework 2002/60/EC and resulting improved water quality by 2015. Techniques, not yet used in this context, like vegetated ditches, natural or constructed wetlands or forest plots will be used at demonstration and/or experimental sites. Techniques, not yet used in this context, like vegetated ditches, natural or constructed wetlands or forest plots will be used at demonstration and/or experimental sites. All systems will be optimised with regard to mitigation capacities, impacts on biodiversity of subsequent aquatic systems (ecotoxicological approaches), flood prevention properties (hydrological approaches), and acceptability by farmers (economical approaches). Proposing a set of pilot scale solutions applicable in the EU, ARTWET will provide a technical guidance for the questions, where, when and how to mitigate the risks of NPS pesticide pollution.
The acquired technological knowledge will be disseminated via the ArtWET coordinator ENGEES (Strasbourg) through training, conferences, data bases and website that would address all actors involved.» weiterlesen» einklappen
