The "guidelines" of the scientific medical societies are systematically developed aids for physicians for decision-making in specific situations. They are based on current scientific knowledge and in best clinical practices and ensure greater safety in medicine, but should also take into account economic aspects.
The basis of this program is based on the medical and scientific knowledge of the specialist societies and the DKG, the consensus of the medical experts, users and patients as well as on the regulations for the preparation of the guidelines for the AWMF and the technical support and the financing by the Deutsche Krebshilfe. In order to reflect the current state of medical knowledge and to take account of medical progress, guidelines need to be regularly reviewed and updated.
The S3 guideline is drawn up according to the current state of scientific literature and the results of international studies. In addition to systematic research and evaluation of primary studies, sources of aggregated evidence are also used: after systemic research and methodological evaluation by means of DELBI, three current evidence-based source guidelines were identified and their recommendations partly incorporated. With the explanatory background texts, it is also possible for non-specialized, co-treating colleagues to advise the patient on the procedure of the specialists, side effects and results.
