SFB 1080/2 C02 Adaptive cellular mechanisms of functional reorganization and recovery after traumatic brain injury (TBI)
Laufzeit: 01.01.2017 - 31.12.2020
Kurzfassung
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a challenging issue for public health as one leading cause of mortality and morbidity in industrialized countries. A better understanding of the adaptive mechanisms underlying neuronal dysfunction in more distant areas is crucial for the development of new therapies to improve recovery of brain function. A better understanding of the adaptive mechanisms underlying neuronal dysfunction in more distant areas is crucial for the development of new therapies to improve recovery of brain function. By use of a TBI model in mice we will study the role of specific subpopulations of GABAergic interneurons for functional reorganization in the contralateral hemisphere in the early phase after TBI. This will include electrophysiological and optogenetic approaches as well as behavioral experiments in mice.
