Kurzfassung
Brain tissue is characterized by its complex composition of a large variety of different cell types. The lack of our ability to genetically access individual cell types is a major limitation in understanding the circuits of the brain and eventually treating pathological alterations. The lack of our ability to genetically access individual cell types is a major limitation in understanding the circuits of the brain and eventually treating pathological alterations. In collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim and the Institute of Molecular Biology, we apply recent methodological advances to functionally characterize regulatory elements in the genome in a massively parallel fashion. This knowledge will be used to develop a set of small promotors that can be used to genetically target specific cell types in the brain with virus-based vectors.
