This project aims at preserving concrete-based monuments, the most significant tangible Cultural Heritage in the 20th Century. In particular, InnovaConcrete will explore an approach based on biotechnology: enzyme-assisted self-healing of damaged surfaces. The partner at UMC-Mainz in combination with the SME partner NanotecMARIN has carried out intense research in the field of molecular biomineralization to produce materials that actually mimic self-repair in living systems, and that, in combination with nanotechnology procedures, enable the sustainable repair of decayed historic concrete. The optimization of the materials is carried out by the use of theoretical tools (multi-scale modelling approaches) together with experimental tools (laboratory and in situ validation). Significant 20th century monuments are used as case studies to validate the performance of the solutions proposed. Finally, the activities required for the future commercialization of the InnovaConcrete products, including standardization, certification, life cycle assessment, scaling up and exploitation strategies are carried out.» weiterlesen» einklappen
